56 years ago, in the heady days after the Vatican II Council, it was an easy decision to leave the East Coast for a new home in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In search of a contemporary contemplative life, the monastery of Our Lady of the Mountains exceeded my vision. The gentle, kind atmosphere not only fostered prayer but also embraced healthy human development, which included ongoing education in Liturgy, Biblical studies and the dynamics of community living.
In retrospect, I have always been grateful that my decision was founded on religious principles. Had I known it, I would have gladly come for just the:
- Big Sky
- The Mountains
- The Sunrise and Sunset
- The 320 days of Sunshine
- The community of Reno
