56 years ago, in the heady days after the Vatican II Council, it was an easy decision, to leave the East Coast for a new home in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. In search for a contemporary contemplative life, the monastery of Our Lady of the Mountains exceeded my vision. The gentle, kind atmosphere, not only fostered prayer but also embraced a healthy human development which included ongoing education in Liturgy, Biblical studies and the dynamics of  community living.

In retrospect, I have always been grateful that my decision was founded on religious principles. Had I known it, I would have gladly have come for just the:
