I grew up south of San Diego in a small town near the ocean. To this day the thought of breathing in salty air, or of the sound of waves lapping on the sandy shore, takes me to a deep and calm inner space. A wonderful piano teacher in my childhood provided both the discipline and encouragement I needed to begin to express through music what I could not put into words. As a teenager I thought of becoming a nun, yet college during the 60s offered other possibilities, challenged my preconceptions and widened my world view.
After teaching high school, getting a Master’s in Theology, working in parish ministries: ecumenical, liturgical and family sacramental preparation, I went on to get an MSW at Loyola, Chicago, with a specialty as a psychiatric social worker. In 1999 God led me here to Carmel of Reno where prayer, solitude, music, nature, community, and more, intertwine and continue to reveal God’s love and mercy to depths I could never have imagined.
