Who We Are

Carmel of Reno serves as a wellspring of prayer and peaceful energy emanating from the majestic landscape of the Nevada high desert.

From this quiet oasis, we offer the presence of unconditional love as a pathway to peace for ourselves and our world, rooted in the firm belief that what we do with our hearts flows out to the entire universe.

We are a generation of Carmelites seeking to live contemplative lives of presence in the third millennium.

The rich history of our Carmelite tradition follows a long line of extraordinary women, like our foundress St. Teresa of Avila. Women who were willing to listen to the Spirit and take risks.

To challenge convention. To Lead. To Pray. To Serve

Our wish is that the simple contemplative life lived in our community overflows to you.

Our monastery is both a place apart and deeply connected to the contemporary world – and all its needs and suffering.

The view from our chapel embraces the city of Reno and the distant mountains, serving as a constant reminder that the Spirit beckons us
forward and beyond.

The circle of our community, united in prayer, has led to larger circles,
ever expanding and becoming who we are.
